RNLI Sea Survival

This course is a must for any scuba diver who dives in the sea around the UK. What do you need to survive if the worst happened? Let us guide you through the basic requirements and skills required to keep you alive while help comes. For every participant who completes the course we will make a £10 donation to the RNLI who keep us all safe in our UK waters.

The goals of RNLI Diver Sea Survival training are:

  • Pre-dive planning (site conditions, tides and appropriate exit and entry points)
  • Reinforce buddy procedures and additional considerations when diving in low visibility.
  • Diving equipment checks appropriate for local environment (including inspection for wear and tear and servicing requirements)
  • Appropriate emergency equipment orientation (location of emergency oxygen and first aid kit, emergency equipment to alert RNLI – visual and audible)
  • Practice diving with a surface marker buoy and deployment of delayed surface marker buoys.
  • Demonstrate effective emergency surface positions to maintain position, diver contact and warmth. (group huddle, contact with a stationary object and crouch position)

By the start of the course, a diver must be:

  • Certified as a PADI Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organisation. In this case, a qualifying certification is defined as proof of entry-level scuba certification with a minimum of four open water training dives. Verify student diver prerequisite skills and provide remediation as necessary.
  • Be at least 12 years.

The course consists of one 2 hour classroom session & 2 Open Water dives that will take place at Blue Lagoon due to the excellent access & suitability for this particular course.
