PADI Freediver
If you’ve always wanted to enter the underwater world quietly, on your own terms, staying as long as your breath allows, then freediving is for you.
Although humans have been freediving for over 8,000 years, it’s since evolved; breath holding techniques and protocols are now cutting edge. Discover your inner power, discipline and control.
1. Course overview
The course is split into two parts; the PADI Basic Freediver and the optional PADI Freediver – with one taking place after the other.
Both parts feature knowledge development, to understand the basic principles. The PADI Basic Freediver takes place in a pool, whilst the PADI Freediver takes place in open water.
You just need to be at least 12 years old to participate in the PADI Basic Freediver course, and at least 15 to participate in the PADI Freediver course.
We also offer a PADI Skin Diver course, suitable for those at least 8 years old, which focuses more on surface swimming with shorter underwater visits.
2. What you'll learn
In the PADI Basic Freediver course, you’ll be introduced to the techniques, physiology and safety protocols of freediving. You’ll follow this up with pool training, practicing breathhold techniques, as well as both static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 metres.
The next step is to progress to PADI Freediver, where we take your existing knowledge to open water. You’ll practice free immersion, constant weight freedives to 10 metres, and proper buddy procedures.
3. Equipment
We’ll provide everything you need for the duration of the course, but feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it already.
You’ll use a mask, snorkel, fins – and likely a weight belt.
We’ll also provide you with the exposure protection (wetsuit) needed to keep you comfortable on your dives.
4. Learning materials
We will send you PADI Freediver e-Learning materials, which will take you to the registration area of the PADI site. This teaches you the background information you need for freediving, and allows you to study at your own pace.
You can complete this on pretty much any device with an internet connection.
Once you’ve completed this, you are ready for your practical training with us!
Ready to start?
You can book and pay for your course with us online, either for yourself or someone else. We’ll send over any e-Learning content to your email, and we can then work with you on suitable dates and times for any practical sessions.
We have availability throughout the year, although if you have specific dates or a timeline in mind, please check with us first.
